New U.S. center to develop, study education technology
A new federal research center, whose initial funding is $50 million, will examine education technology and assist in the adaptation of existing military and private technology for educational purposes. "Despite the multitude of new technologies that are available to us, we have yet to scratch the surface of what we can do in the classroom to ensure that America's children stay ahead of the curve," said U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky., who pushed for such a center to be included in the most recent reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, which was signed into law Aug. 14.
