PC Pro reports that Fujitsu Siemens is offering a new program called Lifebook4Life, which allows customers to upgrade their Lifebook laptop every three years after purchase for free.
Sound too good to be true? Well, there are a few restrictions:
You must purchase an extended three-year warranty with each upgrade (price yet to be determined). Because the machine must remain under warranty, you can only use Fujitsu upgrades and replacement parts.
You must accept each upgrade every three years, or you get no more.
You must register your new laptop within 21 days of purchase.
If you ever lose the original sales receipt, you can’t claim your upgrade.
Each upgrade will be “like for like specifications”, and can’t cost more than 10% more than your previous laptop. Depending on the simultaneous operation of Wirth’s Law and inflation, that could spell a relative downgrade instead.
You can’t leave the contract to someone else in your will, so it dies when you do.
