Classifying Galaxies

posted Saturday, 14 July 2007

The universe is bigger than we could possibly imagine.

Technology is helping us learn more about distant galaxies. We’re even able take pictures of distant objects.

But there are areas where technology falls short. For example, computers aren’t so great at classifying objects in images. Humans are much better at that.

So how do astronomers categorize and classify images of a million galaxies? They ask for your help!

At Galaxy Zoo , you can sign up for this project. Just make sure you go through the training material before you get started. By the way, it is a great way to spend some time with your kids.
