APEC Cyber Academy

posted Saturday, 2 September 2006

If you are a K-12 teacher or working with K-12 teachers, you are invited to send this email to your colleagues. This is an open invitation to all K-12 teachers in North America to participate in the APEC Cyber Academy annual contest.

APEC Cyber Academy (ACA, http://linc.hinet.net/apec/ <http://linc.hinet.net/apec/>) is an international networked learning environment designed specifically to provide student-centered learning opportunities for enhancing skills in information, communication, and technologies (ICT), team collaboration, and international friendship among K-12 students and teachers around the world. Launched in 2002, ACA is currently hosted by APEC Digital Content Production Center (APEC CPC) under auspices of APEC/EDNET and the Ministry of Education of Chinese Taipei (Taiwan). ACA is approved by the Department of Education and compliant with
the Child Online Protection Act (COPA) that was enacted by the Congress.

ACA hosts an annual international online contest since 2002. The nine-week event for 2006 will start on the 2nd of October and conclude on the 3rd of December. Each team will participate in either Networked Collaborative Learning Programs, ICT Cyber Camp, or APEC Journalists. Detailed descriptions can be found on the ACA web site. The winning teams will be awarded a group certificate of merit from Minister of Education, Chinese Taipei (Taiwan). Furthermore, the best team in each program will be awardeda personal computer (one computer per team).

The ACA web site has also featured an International School Club for teachers in Asia and North America to communicate with each other and engage students in collaborative tasks. Other unique features of the site include culturally relevant interactive games, 3D virtual environment, seven-simultaneous video chat, lecture hall for PowerPoint and Q&A, and learning assistant. Each K-12 teacher can organize a team of students to participate in the ACA contest. Online facilitators are available to provide assistance to your students and
teams. Your participation is strongly encouraged. Please visit the site and sign your team up before October 2nd.
