$790M in grants target 'high-need' subjects
To encourage U.S. students to take more challenging courses in high school and to pursue college majors that are in high demand in the new global economy, the U.S. Department of Education is making available $790 million in new funding as of July 1. Students studying math, science, technology, engineering, and "high-need" foreign languages, such as Arabic and Chinese, are eligible for student grants of $750 for their first year of college, $1,300 for their second year, and $4,000 for their third and fourth years, provided they meet certain requirements...
